How to increase dopamine without the use of illegal drugs
blua:
Dopamine plays an important role in many healthy behaviors and medical conditions. It is a neurotransmitter mostly associated with how well you can feel good things. Below is a list of things I’ve read up on that help you feel happy without the use of illegal drugs commonly used to increase dopamine levels such as cocaine or amphetamines.
- Basic exercising. Play sports, go running, go for a bike ride, go shopping, lift weights or simply get off the couch and work in your yard, wash your car, kiss someone, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Do stuff! Don’t just lay around all day because you’re going to feel sad.
- Eat more protein. Dopamine is synthesized from tyrosine, a nonessential amino acid found in chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, lima beans, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds.
- Eat foods containing folate. Increase folate in your diet by eating more romaine lettuce, spinach, asparagus, turnip greens, mustard greens, collard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, beets and lentils.
